02 Aug Award Winning Modern Kitchen Remodel
Modern Inspiration Kitchen Remodel
Grand Prize Winner of the 2021 Crystal Design Awards
This kitchen remodel was a compelling project for BKC. Not only was the design process interesting, but the homeowners were also collaborative and amazing to work with. Prior to the first meeting with our designer, Heather Evans, they had ideas in mind of what they hoped to achieve. Their vision included a minimal and clean design that had good symmetry without a sterile feel. Foregoing wall cabinets, they wanted only base cabinets with plenty of storage options. They also had a specific color in mind for their cabinets: a set of cloth napkins they’d held onto for many years and hoped to color-match. Our custom cabinet line, Crystal Cabinets, created a custom color based on one of those napkins. The cabinets match it almost perfectly!
One of the most challenging aspects of this project was working with the size of the space. Once the wall separating the kitchen from the dining area was removed, the run of cabinets on the back wall became almost 26 feet long. Creating cabinetry that was both functional and symmetrical was a challenge. Because we were unable to move the position of the window, we were locked into that location for the sink, which drove other dimensions in the design. A custom 72-inch sink base cabinet was the solution that helped pull it all harmoniously together.
While we love the layout and the look of this entire kitchen, the favorite of the room is the custom natural walnut and black display cabinet, which showcases some of the homeowners’ collectibles. Photos can’t capture just how beautiful this looks in person! Overall, this kitchen remodel demonstrates BKC Kitchen and Bath’s versatile abilities, from color-matching a 10-year-old cloth napkin, to customizing cabinetry that fits any space and style.
