Twas the Night Before Renovation – A Holiday Poem
Twas the night before renovation, when all through the house,
Not a cabinet was stirring, not even a mouse.
The blueprints were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that the kitchen soon would be there.
The homeowners were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of custom cabinets danced in their heads.
And I in my hard hat, and the contractor in theirs,
Had just settled our brains for a long day of repairs.
When out in the hallway there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the ladder to see what was the matter.
Away to the blueprint, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the pages and examined the stash.
The moon on the countertop of the new island base,
Gave a luster of midday to the freshly painted space.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a sleek cabinet system, both modern and clear.
With dovetail joints sturdy, and handles so chic,
I knew in that moment, this kitchen was unique.
More rapid than eagles, the measurements came,
And I whistled and shouted, and called them by name:
“Now, Upper! Now, Lower! Now, Pantry and Drawer!
On, Corner! On, Lazy Susan! On, Wine Rack and more!
To the top of the ceiling! To the back of the wall!
Now install away! Install away! Install them all!”
As drywall dust settled and sawdust did fly,
The cabinets aligned perfectly, reaching for the sky.
So up to the ceiling, the upper ones soared,
With shelves full of dishes, neatly stored.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard the sweet hum,
Of soft-close hinges, as the doors gently swung.
As I wiped off my brow and admired the view,
I knew this kitchen transformation was true.
The countertops gleamed, the backsplash was bright,
The cabinets, a masterpiece, bathed in soft light.
And I exclaimed as I stepped back to survey,
“Happy renovation to all, and to all a great kitchen day!”
